English Wines at Wine Pantry, Borough Market

Following the recent implosion of the Oddbins wine chain, independent wine retailers have begun to pop-up across the UK, both online and on location. In no city is this more apparent than in London, which has seen many areas previously dominated by chains once again become viable for small, dynamic and focused retailers.

One of the more interesting merchants which has come across my radar of late is Wine Pantry, Borough Market. 'London's first English wine tasting room' the Wine Pantry builds upon the success of nearby establishments such as Borough Wines and Roast Restaurant, helping to challenge the popular misconception of English wine as 'low quality'.

I dropped by on the weekend to take a quick look and to try their wines, a selection of which are available to sample by the glass thanks to Enomatic wine dispensers. My tasting notes are bit of a mess due me being in a rush to catch a train to Peckham.

However, thanks to the guidance of Julia, I quickly settled upon the Kenton Bacchus, a fragrant but dry number from Devon which had guests at the party I later attended guessing Kiwi Sauvignon, and absolute bargain at £8.50 a bottle.
