When it comes to publications, I however am promiscuous, I can't stay faithful to just one. Anything which catches my eye is fair game. I'll have a fling with a national weekend mag, perhaps upgrade from a plain looking British issue for a glossy American version. Sometimes i'll even go out on the prowl to the local bookstore or even better a cavernous W.H Smith far from home for a good ol rifle.
The following are a selection of the Gastronomy publications i'm currently courting.
Slideshow: Lucky Peach, Observer Food Monthly, Electronic Beats, Epicure, LCF 2012 guide
1. Lucky Peach - My new crush. A quarterly food journal originating from the US is edited by Peter Meeghan and David Chang of Momofuku fame. It delves deep into the diverse food, drink and restaurant scenes of the USA. Expect long interviews, psychotic illustrations, frank commentary and some Michelin slating. Buy it here.
2. Observer Food Monthly - It's monthly, it's been going for years, it's brought to you by all your favourite Guardian writers. Easily the pulse of Britain's food culture, single subject focus, loads of recipes. Keeps everyone happy. This month it's about Baking and Jamie Oliver.
3. Electronic Beats - Believe it or not, but non-food publications also sometimes write about food. The spring edition of Electronic Beats out of Germany (underwritten by Deutsche Telekom aka T-Mobile) features a spread / interview with Gerard Joulie, restauranteur and proprietor of Bouilon Chartier, a hundred plus year old restaurant in Montmartre, Paris. Read on Electronic Beats website
4. Epicure - A Singaporean food and restaurant which I picked up when I was there a few months ago. Singaporeans love their food and this publication certainly reflects that - packed to the roof with restaurant and wine recommendations. Densely packed, this sometimes reads like a press release, $$ signs everywhere with a bias for 'Michelin' establishments.
5. London Coffee Festival guide - Well shot and printed on some nice feeling paper stock, the guide to this years festival includes a full programme of events, previews, interviews, the odd comment piece and of course.. a word from the sponsors. Probably not worth reading if you don't like coffee. Available at all participating coffee shops / roasteries.
The next time you are feeling unfaithful to your regular reads, give one of these a try - you're unlikely to regret it afterwards.
