259 Hackney Road wine

259 Hackney road

There's a *new wine store on Hackney Road. Number 259 if you've not guessed that already.

They're a great little store run by a passionate couple specialising in selling wine (sharing they call it), mainly natural, sourced from producers across Europe.

I haven't been through their full list as yet, but i'm hoping to spend a bit more time down that way now they're running an events program which mixes tastings and partnerships with local restaurants from around the area.

Pizza Monday's with Homeslice

Branding board

The Sebright Arms is a great little pub, tucked away down an alleyway off Hackney Road. In recent times it has become better known as the HQ for Lucky Chip, whom operate out of there for most of the week, drawing hundreds of their meat-loving cult fans in the process.

There are, however no Burger Mondays here as fellow traders and all round nice chaps Homeslice have taken up the mantle. You can now find them at the Sebright every Monday.

Burgerac: BURGERAPP launch with Lucky Chip

Gav & the app
Burgerac and the BURGERAPP!

For the second time in as many months I found myself heading down to the launch of another mobile food application. As if we needed an excuse to head down to the Sebright Arms on a Saturday night..

The reason for this little get together? The launch of the new Burgerapp! application from Burgerac (what say that again? One's an app and one is a person). Developed with the roaming burger lover in mind, (the app) aims to allow users to quickly sniff out the best burgers when on the go thanks to expert recommendations taken directly from the Burgerac blog.

Is it useful? I'll let you be the judge of that.

Personally, whilst i'm pretty confident I know where to go around my end of town, I might one day be trapped in a far flung corner of the capital without burgery sustenance closeby. For many this app could well mean the difference between soft, saucy joy and a claggy gastropub 'biscuit'. Future editions might even tell us the length of the queue at Meatliquor or indicate how many more 'specials' Honest Burger have left for the night.

As for the party itself. We barely managed to eat (thanks to a Mr Platter HQ). There was drinking, dancing, burger prizes and some very serious DJ's. Photoset here and below.

Street Feast - Weekly street food market launches in a carpark

Tonight sees the launch of Street Feast - a weekly street food night market held in Scatler Street Car Park.

Londoners wish to see Asian-style night markets to the capital have been frustrated twice in the past year, with the coming and going of Red Market and The Long Table - both of which have enjoyed incredible initial success but have failed to maintain a regular schedule.

Street Feast aims to start as it means to continue, firmly establishing itself as a weekly event. Set in a historic part of Brick Lane, it will initially host eight street food traders as well as a different London restaurant every week.

The organisers have cleverly organised covered seating, an extensive bar which serves wine, cocktails and beer from Camden Town brewery, and a very interesting looking private dining room 'The Car Wash'.

A few of the traders that will be slinging their wares tonight include:

Big Apple Hot Dogs - @bigapplehotdogs

 The Rib Man - @theribman

 The Bowler - @thebowleruk
